Obituary for Dale Unnasch

Myron (Dale) Unnasch, 84, of Grantsburg went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, March 23, 2022 at Burnett Medical Center Continuing Care in Grantsburg.

Dale was born in Money Creek Township of Houston County (MN) on May 9, 1937 to Myron and Dorothy (Lind) Unnasch. He graduated from Winona High School and settled in his home area doing farm work, logging and working for the local dairy picking up canned milk. He also attended the Curtiss Farm artificial insemination school during this time in Chicago, IL.

Dale came to know Jesus as his personal Savior through local tent revival meetings and attended Houston Baptist Church. In October 1960, he met Evangeline Peterson, who had moved to Houston for a teaching job. They were married June 24, 1961, at First Baptist Church of Grantsburg. In June 2021, Dale and Evangeline celebrated 60 years of marriage.
They lived in southeastern Minnesota for four years. In 1965, they moved back to Grantsburg where they purchased the farm, which is now operated by their son Mark.

Dale was a devoted father to his children Heather (Randy) Hill, Bonduel, WI; Mark, Grantsburg, WI. Dale cared deeply for his wife and children. His life can be reflected through Psalm 103:13: "As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him." He was rarely without words and loved to talk; he would offer a hello to anyone whether it be someone he knew or not. He simply wanted to bring joy to everyone's day in some way. He appreciated the camaraderie of local community.

Dale had a love for the land and built his family on strong values, hard work and perserverence and an enduring faith. He especially enjoyed field work and took great pleasure in International Harvestor tractors, from reading about them to operating them. Dale anticipated Spring with the planting of corn and beans. He would often share in the daily conversations of what he had tilled and the Nature he had seen during his day. This would include the sighting of the killdeer, the first robin or the return of the geese in the Spring. While cutting hay, he savored the aroma of fresh cut alfalfa. He also loved corn chopping in the Fall and seeing the labor of his work with harvest. Dale also loved spending time in the barn with the dairy herd working side by side with his family. He enjoyed seeing the beauty in cows and always did everything to keep them alive, healthy and flourishing. Later in life, he cared for the calves and "loved his babies".

He is survived by his children, Heather (Randall) Hill, Bonduel, WI; and Mark, Grantsburg, WI. nephews and nieces, Paul (Brenda) Peterson, Grantsburg, WI, Kathy (Doug) Rykken, Canby, OR; Kevin (Julie) Peterson, Grantsburg, WI, Kevin (Gina) Unnasch, Houston, MN, Brenda (Mike) Miller, Caledonia, MN; and one sister-in-law, Janice Unnasch; and many other friends and family.

He was proceeded in death by his wife, his brother Burdette and his parents.

A funeral service will be held at Grace Baptist Church on Wednesday, March 30, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. A visitation will precede the service at 1:00 p.m. Interment is at Riverside Cemetery.

Arrangements were entrusted to Swedberg-Taylor Funeral Home, Grantsburg. Online condolences can be made at www.swedberg-taylor.com.
